KAWASHIMA, Ukiyo-e Mutants, Dreams and Nightmares

An exhibition by The Pranks will be held at the renowned Parisian bookstore Librairie Alain Brieux. This marks the first solo project by the group’s Japanese member, KAWASHIMA. The world of “Dreams and Nightmares,” in which his works are likened to “Ukiyo-e mutants,” will be showcased in the unique space lined with vintage books.

Machiko Umeda: Spring Shawl Exhibition ~Pranks’playing with strings~

A collaboration between Machiko Umeda, a long-standing textile artist, and The Pranks. Captivated by The Pranks’ artwork, Umeda has created exquisite fabric art featuring humorous depictions of their characters on shawls, tapestries, cushion covers, and more.

PUZZLE – ENIGMA – RIDDLE EXHIBITION

The “Puzzle – Enigma – Riddle Exhibition” will be held to commemorate the publication of the book PUZZLE – ENIGMA – RIDDLE EXHIBITION ~ A Collection of Surreal Fantastical Art ~, a collaboration between The Pranks and Junai Nakagawa.

The exhibition showcases 60 works by The Pranks that Junai Nakagawa has added his own touch to. The surreal, fantastical world they depict speaks to everyone who views it.

ENOSHIMA ART FESTIVAL 2023

A piece created by The Pranks acts as the key visual for the Enoshima Art Festival official website. The Pranks, along with the writer Margaret Boy, were also commissioned to create “Dancing with the Celestial Maiden,” an illustrated tale inspired by the legend of the celestial maiden of Enoshima.

Booklet – “Dreams You Dream When You Grow Up”

Booklets of the picture book “Dreams You Dream When You Grow Up”(2019 edition) will be sold exclusively at the Nuit Blanche Kyoto 2019 venue at the special price of ¥1,500 (plus tax).

The A5-sized booklet is in both English and Japanese and comprises 58 pages. It features 20 offcut-printed original pictures. With the addition of “Boy growing up” on the front cover, this edition has been long-awaited by The Pranks fans.

Nuit Blanche KYOTO 2019

Nuit Blanche KYOTO is held every fall by Kyoto City and the Institut Francais Kansai. The Pranks will participate in the modern art festival; their exhibit, “Dialogue compliqué par The Pranks”, comprising original pictures, lithographs and a Japanese washi paper installation, will be shown at the Sfera Exhibition. We hope you enjoy a real dialogue with these works.
